  • & The Media Conversion Lab is coming back by popular demand.  The Kits to convert VHS tapes into DVDs and audiocassettes into CDs will be returning on Jan. 8th.  If you are interested in converting your old tapes that do not have copyrights, you can call to reserve a time or stop in and see if the kits are free.  This is a project of the Winding Rivers Library System and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.  There is no charge to use the kits, but you do need to provide blank CDs or DVDs to transfer your tapes onto.
  • & Hot Reads for Cold Nights is our reading promotion for adults this winter.  Carol Buchholz is the first winner.  She won a Hot Reads for Cold Nights mug.  Read or listen to a book, complete a review form and return it to the library to enter your name in a drawing for a weekly prize.  The more you read, the better your chance of winning.
  • & We’re having a Paint Party Fundraiser for the library on Saturday, Jan. 27th, from 1-4 pm, at the library!  The cost is $35 and you will have your choice of two canvases to pick from.  Patti Holte, Brookwood art teacher, will lead you step by step to create the painting of your choice.  All supplies and refreshments are included in the charge.  The event is limited to 30 people, so get your name on the list.  Enjoy the afternoon & support the library.
  • & Sock ‘em (a knitting group) will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 8:30 am to start a new sock pattern.  Not interested in knitting socks?  Bring any knitting or handwork and join the Knit Wits each Friday from 10am-12pm.  Get help with knitting questions or just enjoy the conversation.

  • & It’s time for our annual Hot Reads for Cold Nights adult reading program.  Use our simple form to review two books that you’ve read to receive a magnet.  Review two more to receive a coffee mug and review two more for a book bag.  Our graphics this year are particularly cute; we know that you will love the prizes!  Read six books before Feb. 28th to earn all three incentives.
  • & We have a therapy dog that works in our building who would love to be read to by your child.  This dog is safe, certified, and insured for working with children or adults. Call the library for arrangements.
  • & The library’s chess club:  The Check Mates meet the first and third Tuesday of every month; our next meeting is Feb. 6th, at 4pm.  Players of all levels of experience are invited to attend.
  • & We have preschoolers checking in on their progress for 1000 books Before Kindergarten.  It is what it sounds like, a commitment to read one thousand books to your preschooler before they turn five years old.  1000 books sound like an ambitious goal, but by reading just 3 books a day you can read over 1000 books in just one year.  So pick out some books and start enjoying some productive lap time with your child.
